Another Attempt to Avoid the Truth

I’d like to drape this situation in metaphors
that dangle from the ceiling in crystalline threads
until their sparkle distracts from this cloud
I’d like to toss a cloth of symbolism over it all
never let this truly see the light of day
never let you know how much it hurts
But here’s the blatant truth:
my cynicism fled months ago
I took a risk yesterday
you gave a nice non-answer,
politely rejecting me
For Rent: one apartment inside my affections,
a cubicle in my dusty heart;
they’re in the process of being evacuated
For Sale: a thousand text messages
and the lurch of hope that came with them
and heck, take the phone, too
I’d rather not read the next text
where you act like nothing happened
